several industry insiders told c114 that the 800m band adjustment is a big plus for pdt, while tetra, while unaffected in the short term, will be a long-term loser.
pdt and tetra are competing private network standards. among them, tetra (pan-european cluster radio) is a technical system from europe, which has been widely used in the world including china. however, it is not open to china due to its air port encryption, which is not only difficult to connect the system, but also has some security risks. china began to develop the pdt standard in 2008, became the ministry of public security standard in 2013, and began large-scale promotion in 2017.
according to jiang qingsheng, president of pdt alliance, by july 2019, pdt system construction had been carried out in 291 cities and 30 provinces/regions/municipalities directly under the central government, with a total of more than 330 pdt systems, more than 10,000 base stations and more than 600,000 terminal shipments. it is expected that by the end of this year, the pdt network will be basically completed nationwide, and the world's largest dedicated digital cluster network will be built at that time.
pdt had been operating in the 350m band with fewer frequency points. the ministry of industry and information technology has designated 1200 frequency points in the 800m frequency band for pdt, which will undoubtedly greatly improve pdt's networking performance. with these changes, the market where tetra used to be will face fierce competition from pdt. for example, the wireless dispatching market of subway private network has been dominated by tetra for a long time.
industry insiders also revealed that the ministry of emergency management is exploring the use of pdt to build a national coverage of a narrow band emergency network, the final construction of the possibility is very high. for pdt industrial chain manufacturers, this is undoubtedly a good, meaning that pdt out of the public security network, in more industries to be applied. although the public network has entered the 5g era, and the private network industry is also paying close attention to and discussing 5g applications, the low cost and voice scheduling capability of narrowband private network are still highly valued by many private network users.
